3. Cut The Ice
A lot of Chinese medicine practitioners recommend drinking only room temperature or warm liquids when trying to conceive. This is due to their belief that a “cold uterus” inhibits pregnancy.
Try cutting ice and very cold foods out of your diet as much as possible.
If you are interested in learning more about Chinese Medicine and Fertility, The Tao of Fertilityis a really good read.
4. Drink Tea
One way of cutting out ice cold drinks to drink more tea such as decaffeinated green tea or relaxing chamomile.
A great tea that tastes good and enhances your fertility at the same time is FertiliTea by Fairhaven Health.
It’s packed with fertility boosters such as Chasteberry (vitex agnus castus), Red Raspberry Leaf, and Ladies Mantle.
You can also make your own fertility tea using my recipe that you can find here.
5. Cut Down Your Alcohol Consumption
While you want to step up your tea consumption, one drink you should reduce, or even eliminate, is alcohol.
While a little alcohol in moderation won’t necessary stop you from getting pregnant, it definitely won’t help your fertility.
And, as you need to stop drinking during pregnancy anyway, it’s a good idea to start cutting down when you are trying to conceive.
6. Take a Prenatal
If you want to get in tip top condition for pregnancy, start taking a prenatal vitamin with DHA when you first start trying to conceive.
This will ensure your iron and folic acid levels are optimal when you get pregnant.
If you want to really increase your chances of conceiving, there are some other great fertility boosting vitamins and supplements that you can take.
7. Take Regular Exercise
While training for a marathon or doing any extreme forms of exercise are not ideal for getting pregnant, you should aim to do at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise.
This will help to increase blood flow throughout your body and maintain your weight.
Walking, swimming and fertility yoga are all awesome types of exercise that you can do even if you are doing infertility treatments.
8. Eliminate Household Chemicals
Many chemicals that are found in cleaning products or beauty care items contain harmful chemicals that interfere with our hormones and can make it hard to get pregnancy.
While it is impossible to completely remove all traces of these chemicals from our bodies, switching to natural products such as house cleaners, shampoos and soaps is the best way to reduce our exposure.
If you are interested in learning more about eliminating chemicals to improve your fertility, I highly recommend reading this post about fertility detox which addresses toxins and chemicals that are in our environment.
Some easy switches:
-
- Instead of dryer sheets consider getting Wool Dryer Balls which don’t use any chemicals. (you can also use them on baby clothes!)
- Instead of traditional, chemically made cleaning products, try an all-natural product like Puracy Natural All Purpose Cleaner or a plain old vinegar and water solution.
- Consider using all natural shower gels and shampoos like the ones from Kiss My Face or Avalon Organics

9. Stress Less
Don’t worry, I’m not going to say “relax and it will happen”.
I know how irritating that is, first hand. BUT stress does affect your hormone levels and can be a factor in infertility.
Here are some things that might help you relax:
- Take a walk and listen to music or a podcast.
- Try acupuncture. It doesn’t hurt at all and is great for stress.
- Take a yoga class or try fertility yoga in the comfort of your own home.
- Take a relaxing bubble bath
For more tips on not stressing, you can read my article about How To Relax While Trying To Get Pregnant – it includes a free “calm your mind” journal.
10. Reduce Your Caffeine Intake
While certain teas can naturally boost your fertility, excessive amounts of caffeine are not great when trying to conceive.
In fact, it is one of the foods to avoid if you want to help implantation
Try switching to decaf as much as possible and cut sodas out completely.
Here you can see the caffeine levels in some common drinks:
For a non caffeinated morning drink, try a vitamin packed fertility smoothie.
